 "Tent leaks..worthless" 2010-02-24

This tent leaks badly at the zippers for the doors. The zipper has a nylon cover over it at the top. But at the apex of the curve in the zipper there is a break in the cover that moves it to the opposite side of the zipper. At this point in the Zipper cover, rain just seeps in and you cannot do anything about it. We returned it for this reason once and it happened again with the next one. Since the leak occurs at the zipper, it cannot be sealed. This very expensive tent is, in our opinion, worthless...

I've had this tent for about 6 months now and used it three times. The last trip I took was the first time we got heavy rain and the tent held up great. It poured on us all night and not a drop in the tent! There was not much wind as we had a good wind block where we camp but I was pleasently surprised by how well the rain flap protected.

The tent is great, it has two rooms so a buddy can stay on one side or if I'm alone in it, I put all my gear on that side and sleep in the other. A queen size air mattress can fit on either side plus room for gear no problem. It is easy to put up from a technical standpoint but it is a job as the tent is big. I've done it alone a few times but it's much easier with someone to lend you a hand. The rolling case it comes in even expands so you can actually get the thing back in it's case without much trouble, outstanding feature in my book.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this tent.

First a huge thanks to the reviewer that posted the phone number for replacement window poles.

Initial setup is easy once you figure it out, but the instructions are kind of a weak point. Other instructions can be found via a Google search.

This tent is huge. It kept me, my wife, my son, my daughter (in a playpen) and my mother-in-law and our bags dry (mostly) and comfortable with room to move around. Now the mostly dry part is really not the fault of the tent. We took this tent out and on the first night a storm rolled in that drove rain into the tent at about 25mph and it leaked minimally at 1 seam and one zipper. It far exceeded it's design and what I would expect as far as it's durability and resilience.

At one point during the storm a gust inverted the roof poles and collapsed one side of the tent, BUT a quick pull on the corner that let go and the poles came back into position and the tent was back up and protecting us from the storm. Lesser tents at the site we were at were destroyed by the storm.

The next morning, a little bit of clean-up and resetting the stakes for the rainfly and we were good as new. The next night was extremely pleasant and I just cannot tell you how great I think this tent is. The window poles broke during the initial setup, but as I said earlier the number provided by another reviewer works and they'll get new poles right out to you under warranty.

I expected to pay more and I did not expect the quality I received in this tent. It should keep a good sized family or group of friends dry and comfortable and

I've had this tent for two camping season now and am finally writing the review. It it a big one! I'm 5'10" and my boyfriend is 6'2" and we can both stand up with head room to spare. The material is quality and despite it's size, it's really easy to pitch. It usually takes us about 8-10 minutes max to get it set up and taken down.
The only flaw is that it will leak a little in heavy rain. Because of this I would recommend applying a sealant coat to the fabric. We were stuck in a 24 hour downpour on one trip and after about the 5th hour of rain it started to leak a bit, but not too badly.


 "Great Roomy Tent Had Problem With Poles so did a Friend" 2009-11-15

So I bought this tent a couple years ago after seeing a friend with it on a group camping trip. It's great, very roomy and has some great features. At that time the friend told me he'd replaced the upper plastic poles with aluminum ones. He wanted them to be stronger.

Well I've used the tent about a half dozen or more times. The elastic which holds the over-head poles together failed on one of them during my third use of the tent. I've used the tent two times since then, and just manually squeezed the pole together during assembly. On the last trip another pole had it's elastic fail as well.

Now I've only used this tent in mild, summer weather. Beaches and forests here in California. The tent has always been gently packed and stored indoors away from harsh temperatures.

So overall I'd definitely recommend this tent as a great value for the money and I really like the new color scheme. But I would be careful with the tent poles and don't be surprised if you have a failure of the elastic.
